Why Upstream
The problems you see downstream usually started upstream.
Organizations often respond to brand issues where they become visible. They show up in marketing, customer experience, product decisions, employee behavior or sales execution.
But those are often symptoms rather than the source.
Upstream focuses earlier, on the leadership decisions, assumptions and points of alignment that shape what happens downstream. Addressing drift at the source is easier and less costly than correcting it after it has spread across the organization.
Brand integrity is a leadership discipline.
Brand integrity is the degree to which an organization consistently protects and delivers on what it promises to stand for across strategy, people, products, services, customer experience and growth.
That is the territory the Upstream Brand Integrity™ framework examines.
Upstream Brand Integrity Framework
A way to see where alignment holds, and where it starts to drift.
The Upstream Brand Integrity framework looks across the organization to understand how consistently the brand promise is understood, protected and applied.
It examines the relationship between leadership intent and what actually happens across strategy, people, product or service, customer experience and growth.
The goal is to identify where alignment is strong, where interpretations differ, and where early signs of drift may be creating risk downstream.
2026 Upstream Brand Integrity™ Field Study
Upstream Brand Advisory is recruiting 10–12 established B2B organizations for confidential research examining how leadership teams understand, protect and apply the brand promise across the business.
research Participation
Brand integrity is built across the leadership team.
Each participating organization is represented by a minimum of four executives: the CEO, CMO, CHRO, and the senior executive responsible for the company’s core product or service offering—typically the Chief Product Officer or equivalent.
Each participant completes a confidential 45-minute executive interview.
What participants receive
A complimentary Upstream Brand Integrity Research Assessment.
The Research Assessment provides an executive-team view of how consistently senior leaders understand and apply the organization’s brand promise.
It highlights:
Areas of strong alignment across the executive team
Meaningful differences in how leaders interpret the brand promise
Decision areas where leadership perspectives may be diverging
Early indications of where brand integrity may be under pressure
The assessment is based on the executive interviews conducted for the Field Study. It is designed to provide useful insight into leadership coherence, not a full diagnostic of the organization.
Participation does not require purchasing consulting services or a follow-on engagement.
